As other Potter fans, I was looking forward for the 6th installment of the blockbuster Harry Potter franchise. The book was great and it was plain discouraging to have heard this news. Looks like were going to have to wait LONGER for it. Hmmm.
Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that it has moved back the release date of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” to Summer 2009. The sixth installment of the blockbuster Harry Potter franchise will now open day-and-date domestically and in the major international markets on July 17, 2009. The announcement was made by Alan Horn, President and Chief Operating Officer, Warner Bros.In making the announcement, Mr. Horn stated, “Our reasons for shifting ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to summer are twofold: we know the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent pole release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment.
I'm having difficulty settling with their decision. I understand the reason behind the move, but moving such a major film with a fan base that has been anxiously awaiting the next installment while the opening of the film draws near is a mistake in my point of view. And from a business point of view, I think its better for the movie showing to be closer to the release date of the latest book so that the momentum would be better for the movie.
I am in agreement with Movie Blog's sentiments regarding this move. I'm sure as hell the Warner Bros. Company realized long before that summer is the best time to release a movie. WHY make a move NOW when they have already set a date?

As far as I can assess, this move won't taint the quality of the movie but will be a dart in the heart of Harry Potter fans who were expecting to see the long awaited movie.
