DIG: Computer Magic

Danielle / Danz, or in this case Computer Magic created this solo project a few months ago in between school, DJing, blogging and graphic designing. The ethereal and whimsy found in her bedroom electronic pop music is the kind of thing you'd most probably hear from Sofia Coppolla films or those coming-of-age films circa Breakfast Club days. Her track "Teenage Ballad", which is my favorite of all her songs, sends off a message that if I were given the benefit of the doubt, tells a piece of her life (albeit the song being inspired by the movie The Graduate). "Electronic Fences" was inspired by Philip K. Dick' Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? novel. In the melody of the arpeggiated keys of the piano you can hear children's voices playing in the background. "On VHS" is a track that brings you to tropical scenes while her demo "And Lastly the Kids are Growing Up" features her lazy summer voice paired with a repeating drum beat and organ tune. Once you bring your attention to this talent of hers, you'd really see her going far. Here are her tracks below plus a new one, "Hiding from Our Time".

I dropped at Aurgasm almost a month ago and found this smooth jazz singer, Lizzy Parks, and fell for her sound. I'm not a big jazz fan but she changed my mind. Only now have I gotten around posting about her but you have to check out her music. Her debut album, which a lot of jazz fans have noticed having that Ella Fitzgerald sound has modern edginess about it, not just pop.

Did you ever wonder who that Polo-sporting mystery blonde was who stars on the cover of chart topper Contra? The name is Kirsten Kennis and she wants all of you folks to know that she's not Vampire Weekend's biggest fan. The photo was taken in 1983 and here's the goods via TMZ:

"The model is Kirsten Kennis — who claims she took the original photo way back in 1983 — and had no idea it was being featured on the album “Contra” … until after the band began to promote it back in November. In a lawsuit, filed yesterday in L.A. County Superior Court, Kennis claims she thinks it all has to do with a “photographic release” that the band obtained from a photographer named Tod Brody. Problem is, Kennis claims the signature on the release is a forgery. Kennis blames the band for not verifying the legitimacy of the release — and is suing VW and the photog for more than $2 mil."

Credits to P4K for sharing this piece. Girl sure has some nose for money!

Just because this weekened rendered yours truly free, then here's the obligatory post for the new videos the world just witnessed.

Bruno Mars is shooting up in the popularity list fast. Singing the hook in the international hit "Nothing On You" with B.o.B and Travie McCoy's "Billionaire" track, this guys undoubtedly has the goods to leave an imprint on the music industry. If I had a chance to see this guy live, I'd go. He released a solo EP entitled 'Its Better if You Don't Understand' in May. I don't have the track but you gotta see this one.

When soundboard genius Pharrell Williams, who the common man would often associate with hiphop or rap, makes a 360 and does something LIKE THIS, then you definitely will want to watch out for more. This recent collaboration with electro meisters Swedish House Mafia that is taking over dancefloors in Europe like wildfire. The video is brilliant and elegantly styled leaving you in a trance.

July's Hardcore Mixtape has set it's sight at making you feel like a billionaire. This mixtape, not purely created for the love I'm feeling for Travie McCoy's radio hit, is also my way of cheering all those people working their assess off the dull workplace just to get through the day. And even more cheering for those who are doing the work they love despite the meager salary. Yeah, we've all been through that crap once in our lives, so kudos to all you busy bees!

Enjoy this month's mixtape!
