Boston Legal (which is its last season anyway) and 'Til Death are the scripted shows most likely to be cancelled in the new 2008-9 broadcast television season. In fact, Fox’s Do Not Disturb was the most likely to be cancelled, but Fox beat everyone to it and already cancelled the show! The other scripted shows in significant danger of being cancelled are The New Adventures of Old Christine, Lipstick Jungle, Knight Rider, Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, Gary Unmarried, and My Name is Earl...

How did TV By the Numbers come up with the list? They found that last season, the future of a show was nearly directly related to its adults 18-49 average viewers divided by its networks 18-49 average viewers. Many other factors may matter, but they all seemed to boil down to that one number. Last season, if a show had better than 92% of its network’s average 18-49 viewership it was pretty safe, below that level it was in danger. I’m very confident that their list will still indicate the shows most likely to be cancelled compared to those less likely to be cancelled.

Here is their list (the top is most likely to be cancelled and the bottom is least likely)

1. Do Not Disturb
2. Boston Legal
3. Til Death
4. Old Christine -- I just saw this show and I can't believe its about to be canceelled. Old Chrisitine is supremely underappreciated.

Today the The Office cast is filming the Halloween episode and Jenna revealed in her MySpace blog that they're having a very special person direct an episode this season.

Stephen Merchant, executive producer and co-creator of the British version of The Office!

I saw the pilot online, but it was the first version (one of the characters has since been re-cast) and it wasn't completely edited. Some parts were pretty dumb but other parts were cool, I'll watch, I like the premise. They use good, bluesy music on the soundtrack, I like the credits song. Has anyone read the books?

True Blood Preview and Interview with Creator Alan Ball

HBO: After 'Six Feet Under,' making a show about vampires is a bit of a departure — what can viewers expect from 'True Blood?'

Alan Ball: It's based on a series of books written by Charlaine Harris, and it takes place in a world where vampires have made their presence known to humans.

They've come out of the coffin, so to speak, because of the development by a Japanese biotech firm of synthetic blood for medical purposes, which the vampires claim fulfills all of their nutritional needs. So they've organized, and they're struggling for assimilation and for equal rights.

That's sort of the big-world picture, and then in the small world of the show, which is a very small town in northern Louisiana, there is a waitress who works in a roadhouse, and she's telepathic, which has been a seriously debilitating pain in the ass for her. Everybody thinks she's crazy. She has no social life because of this, and then she meets a vampire. And because, technically, he has no brainwaves, she doesn't really hear his thoughts. So for the first time in her entire life, she can relax and be herself and not be on guard about hearing people's private, innermost things.

And then there's a huge array of other characters; it's a really fun show. I remember when I was first pitching it, I said, ''This is popcorn TV for smart people.''

HBO: How did you discover these books and decide they'd make a great HBO series?

Alan Ball: I was early for a dentist appointment, and I had some time to kill. I went into Barnes and Noble, and I just bought this book on impulse. It was just a little paperback, and on the cover, the tagline said, ''Maybe having a vampire for a boyfriend wasn't such a good idea.'' I thought it was kind of funny. I started reading it that night, and I couldn't put it down. And the minute I was done with it, I wanted to read the next one. And I really got addicted. It's just such a fun world, and she really nailed so many things: They're very sexy, they're hilarious, there's a lot of interesting sociology. I'm from the South, and it was a very authentic look at the South. It's the kind of book you think, ''I'm going to read one chapter before I go to bed, and you read six.''

HBO: What do you think fans of 'Six Feet Under' will like about 'True Blood'?

Alan Ball: I think they will like the quality of the performances. It's another amazing cast, who are just doing really spectacular work. It's very sexy, and it's very funny. There's a lot of dark humor. It certainly goes places that I've never seen a series go before. It's not as existentially exhausting as Six Feet Under was, maybe, but ultimately, it's similar terrain in that it's really just exploring the human condition... and the vampire condition, since vampires are not really human anymore.

HBO: With all the vampire films and shows that have been made, how have you set 'True Blood' apart?

Alan Ball: There's a lot of gray area; the vampires are just like humans. Nobody's a hundred percent good, nobody's a hundred percent bad. There's also the aspect that an entire subculture springs up around the vampires. There are people who are called ''fang bangers'' who basically just want to hook up with vampires because apparently sex with vampires is really good. Vampire blood is kind of the hot black-market drug. If you ingest vampire blood, it's like a combination of ecstasy and Viagra — it gives you incredible strength. But it's also incredibly dangerous and incredibly addictive. Plus the fact that it's a vampire show that's taking place in such a mundane location. It's not New Orleans; it's not Anne Rice. One of my rules is: I don't ever want to hear opera music in the show, ever. We're staying away from the Baroque things. We're staying away from the standard, supernatural blue light. We're staying away from vampires having strange contact lenses. We're staying away from any sort of special effects that become the focus. I just want to give my actors fangs and let them act. What is it like to be immortal, to have lost everybody you love? To yearn for your humanity?

HBO: What was it like to adapt this series from the book, as opposed to creating something entirely original?

Alan Ball: In a lot of ways, an adaptation can be easier. One of the great things I discovered once we started turning Charlaine's books into a series is that her books are so successful because those stories work. The books are narrated from Sookie Stackhouse's point of view — the character that Anna Paquin is playing — and we're just sticking to her story. Now, the other characters in the world that don't really appear in the books, except when they're in her story, we're taking them and creating new things for them to do. But in a lot of ways Charlaine has done a lot of the heavy lifting already by creating this world and these characters. At the same time, I think, when you're just creating an original world, then you really have the freedom to just go anywhere. That being said, though, once I got into the second or third, fourth season of 'Six Feet Under,' there was a logic that you couldn't break. You couldn't just have this character do this because it would make a good story. We had established the psychology and a sort of character that had to remain true.

HBO: Does recasting someone else's work expand your horizons as a storyteller?

Alan Ball: I think working in television is great because you're always learning. The fact that you have to keep telling a big chapter of that story every two weeks, you're always learning. I tend to be drawn towards material that has a sensibility that, while it may not match my own original sensibility, it's very much in the same ballpark.
if it's anywhere as awesome as six feet under, i'll watch it.

My heart is racing after reading the 60th Primetime Emmy® Awards’ shortlist. The list below are the top ten vote-getters for outstanding drama series and outstanding comedy series, as voted on by the entire Television Academy. And I can't help but be proud as my bets are in the top list! As you can see below, almost 50% - 70% of my bets are on the list! Wonder how many of mine will turn up in the best female and best male actors and actresses. ^^,

The next step of the process will be the Blue Ribbon Panel screenings, which will be conducted throughout this weekend of June 28-29. I can feel the anxiety already in the respective stations hoping (and trying) to get their shows on that list. The results of those panels, who will watch and judge the work of each finalist, represent 50 percent of the vote. Both results will be averaged together to come up with our five nominees in each category.

Those nominees will be announced by the Television Academy at 5:40 a.m. on Thursday, July 17.
The panel participants have been confirmed and the panels are currently closed.

TV Characters You'd Date

I created a discussion on BlogCatalog for the past week and polled on a couple of friends asking people to name the fake people you want in your life for real -- here, your (sometimes very weird) answers.

-

By far the most popular response...

JIM HALPERT (John Krasinski)

The Office

We would have so much fun pulling pranks on Dwight and Andy and we'd go to baseball games and he'd never leave me at a fountain in NYC. Of course, I'd have to pull an Eternal Sunshine on him to erase all memories of that Pam person, but I know people, and that can be arranged. — Red

I'm sure everybody thinks to themselves, ''Oh my god, I am SO Jim/Pam! I'm so cynical, and everybody else at school/work are just a bunch of Kellys/Phyllises/Stanleys!'' But, like, for me, it's REALLY true. So I'm sure Jim would fall madly in love with me. — Emily R

LOGAN ECHOLLS (Jason Dohring) and VERONICA MARS (Kristen Bell)

Veronica Mars

He's fiercely loyal, witty as hell, and pretty much awesome in every way. To quote Veronica, he's ''ownage.'' Sure, he used to arrange bum fights and screw his friend's stepmother, but when you think about it...he's had the most f'd up life ever (girlfriend brutally murdered, dad arrested for sleeping with/killing said girlfriend, mom commits suicide, etc.) yet he still manages to love with his whole heart. — Melissa

Some folks have mentioned the boys from Veronica Mars, but no man has stepped up to the plate to take V herself. I heartily volunteer. She's smart, hilarious, and a sassy lady. What's more to ask for, oh wait she's a bombshell. Annoy me, tiny blonde, annoy me anytime! — Seth

JACK SHEPHARD (Matthew Fox)

Lost

He's ridiculously attractive, I like ridiculously attractive guys...He likes to save people, I frequently need saving...He's usually pretty stubbly, I like stubble...it's clearly a match made in heaven. — Cara

This is a good question as there are a lot of TV characters I have a ''crush'' on...I wouldn't actually date them (i.e. Logan Echolls). I love the idea of them...not actually them. Jack Shephard, on the other hand...We share the same sense of morality, which I think is the most important thing in a relationship. Also, there is nothing sexier than someone who does the right thing simply because it's right. Goodness & morality are the ultimate turn-on. — Kris

THE MEN OF FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

Eric Taylor. He's not perfect and he doesn't claim to be, but he's a decent man who loves his family, is a loyal friend, and cares very much about doing the right thing. He's funny and smart and loves what he does and there is just no man who has ever cooed at a baby sexier!…Sadly I can't even begin to compete with Tami Taylor's awesome hair [but] I'd be more than willing to help him get that bratty teenage daughter of his under control. — Melissa

I'd have to go with Tim Riggins...He's not averse to dating older women, and do I really need to say it? People, he's HOT. — Alison

I usually dig the older bad boys, like House and Sawyer, but I think Smash Williams is the guy for me right now. With all that self-righteous, brash, reckless charisma behind that handsome face, Smash got it going on. — K

I have SUCH a soft spot for Landry...I'm a geek, he's a geek.... — Kari

My heart belongs to the ENTIRE cast of Friday Night Lights. I'd marry them all in a big polygamous to-do. I'll even take Buddy, just for kicks. Now, the fight for 1st wife though comes down to Coach and QB 1.... — Anonymous

BREE VAN DE KAMP (Marcia Cross)

Desperate Housewives

I sorta dig that neurotic obsessive compulsive thing she's got going on. As long as I use a coaster, I've got it easy.... — Darma Boy

GREGORY HOUSE (Hugh Laurie)

House

I've been told I'm crazy for wanting to be with him (by almost everyone I know), but I don't care. Sure, he's a Vicodin-popping, fortysomething, sarcastic doctor with a limp, but who cares? He's smart, speaks his mind, and is very witty. As I love to argue, this works out perfectly. We could go back & forth for hours on a number of topics, from religion to celebrities. Plus, he plays the piano and a mean guitar. So hot!! — Frances

PAM BEESLY (Jenna Fischer) and KAREN FILIPPELLI (Rashida Jones)

The Office

From the male perspective, Pam Beesly. She is very cute, without being high-maintenance, growing in her confidence and is artsy. We share a similar light, yet sarcastic sense of humor. — James

Wow, so it's mostly female posters lusting after all the terrific male characters out there...I'll mix things up a bit and put in my vote for Karen Filippelli of The Office. She's smart, funny and enjoys practical jokes, but works hard when she has to (like me). Not to mention she's unbelievably beautiful (some might say ''exotic looking''). She's a risk taker and willing to make big changes in her life for someone she cares for (I like to think I'm the same way). Hey, if Jim doesn't want her.... — Ceballos

HIRO NAKAMURA (Masi Oka), SYLAR (Zachary Quinto) and CLAIRE BENNET (Hayden Panettiere)

Heroes

Hiro Nakamura!! We share many interests — I would go comic shopping with him, I wouldn't gripe if Ando hung out all the time, I'd ask him to teach me some samurai moves, and I'd take care of him after a time-hopping jaunt to save the world. Oh yeah — and I'd make him waffles. — Kathleen

I have a HUGE crush on [Sylar]. I have no superpowers he'd want to steal, so I'm safe. I'd be understanding and love him for the slightly creepy, super-smart weirdo that he is. I would make him happy, but it wouldn't be enough. He'd break, kill someone; I'd cry, then leave him. He'd apologize and ask for forgiveness. I would go make out with Nathan Petrelli (ignoring the last episode) and then take him back. It'd be a huge messy deal but the make-up sex would be awesome. — Susie S.

Claire Bennet. A little young, I know, but it's been a goal of mine to date a cheerleader. I'd threaten to expose her to the entire school if she didn't go out with me (teens hate that)! — Rob Grizzly

MICHAEL SCOFIELD (Wentworth Miller)

Prison Break

I know he's on the run from the law and a shadowy evil corporation that murdered his last girlfriend, and that he is seriously on the rebound after losing said girlfriend, but look at the guy — he is incredibly hot, sexy, vulnerable, smart...how can I not go for that? Besides, he hasn't been intimate with a female for months so I know that whatever time we spend together on a secluded Central American beach would be...uh...memorable to say the least. So hands off, girls, this fugitive is mine! — anne

TV's 10 pair-ups that click

After quiet and prudent deliberation, I have decided upon my 10 TV pair-ups that have the TV's Onscreen BEST CHEMISTRY. I'm such a coach potato these days that I even watch recaps on the Internet. I also searched for their character's full names---hope I got it right. It's sick but I love it. Anyway, here's my 10.

1. Kate [Evangeline Lilly] and Sawyer [Josh Holloway] on Lost
have enough heat to melt every polar ice cap around.I swear, even my mother agrees. The scene where he asks for a kiss in payment for telling the truth about Shannon's inhaler makes my toes curl it's so hot!

2. Jack Shephard [Matthew Fox] and Kate Austen [Evangeline Lilly] from Lost. I've never seen anyone with so much chemistry; they really make you love the couple and their skill to act together.

3.Mulder [David Duchovny] and Scully [Gillian Anderson] on The X-Files. As a kid, I was fascinated by the geeky info and science-based fiction from X-files. But another factor why I love the show (the movie is coming SOON!) is how Mulder tries to deviate his relationship with Scully from professional to something else (by something else, you know what I mean). :-)

4. I'll throw in Veronica [Kristen Bell] and Logan [Jason Dohring] from Veronica Mars. What could be better than lurve? Another plus is that I really like Kristen Bell.

5. House [Hugh Laurie] and Wilson [Robert Sean Leonard] on House M.D. I don't know what House's concept of friendship is, but his just ENTERTAINS me so much that I'm putting them in this list.

6. Bethany Joy Galeotti and James Lafferty who play Nathan and Haley Scott on One Tree Hill. For five years I've watched this duo portray a beloved couple. Their chemistry is gold, and has never failed to amaze me. Their presence really owns the screen. They just have this simple grace, comfort, and pureness to the way they portray this couple.

And honestly speaking, for me, they are the reason why everyone believes in true love. They just feel so right together, and the way they look at each other just melts your heart. That feeling is definitely here to stay for a very long time. Here's to Haley and Nathan from One Tree Hill, always and forever!!!!!

7. Marc [Michael Urie] and Amanda [Becki Newton] from Ugly Betty have amazingly funny, quick banter that always makes me laugh. They are both perfectly devious. I just love them bitching on TV. Hehehe.

8. This isn't questionable, me being a Joss Whedon fan. Angel (David Boreanaz) and Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. From their first meeting in a darkened alley, they set my TV set ablaze. The two of them engaged one another like no one else on the series. Although, I find it hard to believe that David could not have chemistry with anyone, given his recent well matched pairing on Bones.

Buffy and Spike [James Marsters] as well. The characters complimented each other beautifully, and the actors played off each other perfectly whether the situation was dramatic or comedic. Plus, their onscreen connection was smokin'. I'm a bit more o Angel-Buffy tho.

9. The Gilmore girls of course!
Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham [as Rory and Lorelai on The Gilmore Girls] not only pulled of the daughter/mother dynamic but were also able to spit out all that rapid pop culture laden dialog and make it totally believable. Who didn't want to be them or at least be their friend? I sure do. *_*

10. This almost didn't make my list if I hadn't scanned in my DVD library J
ohn Krasinski's movie with Mandy Moore. I thought I'd hate Jim and Pam [Jenna Fischer] pair-up in the US version of The Office, but as I neared the end of the season, I was like, "Whoa!". I guess it was good that they SLOWLY built their chemistry amidst the chaos in their jobs and delivered the much awaited steam from them.

Wanna add to the list? Or maybe comment? Feel free to do so!
